How to Fill a Pod — Step by StepUpdated 15 days ago
Before You Fill
- Make sure the pod is empty or nearly empty before refilling — topping off a partially full pod is fine.
- Check that your e-liquid is the right type for your pod kit — balanced PG/VG (50/50 or 60VG/40PG) for most pod systems. Avoid very high VG liquids in pod kits.
- Have a paper towel handy for any drips.
Finding the Fill Port
The fill port is a small opening covered by a rubber plug or silicone seal. Common locations:
- Side fill: A rubber plug on the side of the pod — the most common design.
- Bottom fill: A plug on the bottom of the pod. Remove the pod from the device, flip it over, and fill from the bottom.
- Top fill: A plug or sliding mechanism on the top of the pod, accessible while the pod is in the device.
Step-by-Step Filling Instructions
- Remove the pod from the device (for side and bottom fill).
- Locate the fill port and open or remove the rubber plug.
- Tilt the pod slightly to angle the fill port up.
- Insert your e-liquid bottle tip directly into the fill port — press the tip against the inside wall of the fill hole, not down the center (this prevents air bubbles).
- Fill slowly and steadily. Watch the clear pod window to monitor the level.
- Stop filling when the e-liquid is just below the top — leave a small air gap. Never overfill.
- Remove the bottle tip and firmly close or replace the fill port plug.
- Let the pod sit upright for 5–10 minutes to allow the coil to fully saturate before vaping.
Needle Tip Bottles
If your e-liquid bottle has a wide tip that doesn't fit the fill port easily, transfer some liquid to a small needle-tip bottle (also called a unicorn bottle). These narrow tips fit any fill port cleanly and make filling much easier. We carry these at SmokTek.
Troubleshooting Fill Problems
- Liquid won't go in: Make sure the fill port is fully open and you're inserting at the right angle. Some ports require the pod to be tilted.
- Air bubbles / gurgling after filling: Let the pod sit longer before vaping, or gently tap the pod on a surface to dislodge bubbles.
- Leaking after filling: Most likely overfilled or the fill plug isn't fully sealed. Empty slightly and ensure the plug is firmly closed.
