Temperature Control Vaping — What It Is and How to Use ItUpdated 15 days ago

What Is Temperature Control Mode?

Temperature control (TC) is a firing mode available on advanced box mods that monitors coil temperature rather than simply delivering a set wattage. Instead of setting watts, you set a maximum temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. When the coil reaches that temperature, the mod reduces power to maintain it — preventing overheating and dry hits.

Benefits of Temperature Control

  • No dry hits: The mod cuts power before the coil can burn dry cotton — a major advantage.
  • Consistent vape: Every puff delivers the same experience regardless of battery level.
  • Coil longevity: Preventing overheating extends coil life.
  • Safer vaping: Reduces the chance of overheating the coil.

Compatible Coil Materials

TC mode only works with specific coil wire materials that have predictable resistance changes with temperature. Compatible materials:

  • Nickel (Ni200): The original TC material. Very accurate but can't be used in wattage mode.
  • Titanium (Ti): Similar to nickel, slightly more durable.
  • Stainless Steel (SS316L): The most popular TC material today. Can be used in both TC and wattage mode — very versatile.

Standard Kanthal and Nichrome coils do NOT work in TC mode. Using them in TC will produce inconsistent results.

How to Set Up TC Mode

  1. Install a TC-compatible coil (SS, Ni200, or Ti) and let it reach room temperature.
  2. Attach the tank to the mod.
  3. Enter TC mode on your mod and select the correct material (SS, Ni, or Ti).
  4. Lock the resistance — most mods do this automatically when you enter TC mode with a new coil.
  5. Set your temperature. A good starting point is 420–460°F (215–237°C) for SS coils.
  6. Set a reasonable wattage limit (the "watts" setting in TC mode determines how fast the coil reaches temperature, not the max temperature itself).
  7. Fill the tank, prime the coil, and vape — adjusting temperature to taste.

Is TC Right for You?

TC mode has a steeper learning curve than wattage mode. If you're new to box mods, start with wattage mode and explore TC once you're comfortable. Contact us at [email protected] if you need guidance.
