What Is Vaping? A Beginner's IntroductionUpdated 15 days ago
What Is Vaping?
Vaping is the act of inhaling vapor produced by an electronic device that heats a liquid (called e-liquid or vape juice) into an aerosol. Unlike smoking, there is no combustion — nothing is burned. This means no ash, no tar, and no smoke smell.
How Does a Vape Device Work?
Every vape device — from a simple disposable to an advanced box mod — works on the same basic principle:
- A battery powers a heating element called a coil.
- The coil heats e-liquid that has been absorbed into a cotton wicking material.
- The heated liquid turns into vapor.
- You inhale the vapor through the mouthpiece.
What Is E-Liquid?
E-liquid (also called vape juice or e-juice) is the liquid that gets vaporized. It's made of a few simple ingredients:
- Propylene Glycol (PG) — a thin, tasteless liquid that carries flavor and produces throat hit.
- Vegetable Glycerin (VG) — a thicker, slightly sweet liquid that produces vapor clouds.
- Flavor concentrates — food-grade flavorings.
- Nicotine — optional, available in varying strengths from 0mg to 50mg depending on the product type.
Vaping vs. Smoking — Key Differences
- No combustion — no burning, no smoke, no ash, no tar.
- Significantly less odor — vapor dissipates quickly and doesn't cling to clothing or furniture the way smoke does.
- Nicotine control — you choose your nicotine level, and can step down over time if desired.
- Wide variety of flavors — from tobacco and menthol to fruit, dessert, and candy flavors.
Is Vaping Right for You?
Vaping products are intended for adult smokers and existing nicotine users who are looking for an alternative. Vaping products contain nicotine, which is addictive. If you have never smoked or used nicotine, vaping is not recommended. You must be 21 or older to purchase vaping products from SmokTek.
