How Long Should a Coil Last?

A well-maintained coil should last 1–4 weeks depending on how often you vape and what e-liquid you use. If yours is burning out in days, one of these is the likely cause.

Cause 1 — Not Priming the Coil Before Use

This is the single biggest cause of premature coil death. Firing a new coil before the cotton is fully saturated burns the dry cotton instantly.

Fix: Always prime a new coil. After installing and filling, let the tank sit for at least 5–10 minutes. Then take 3–4 gentle puffs without pressing the fire button before your first real draw. Start at a lower wattage and build up gradually over the first few draws.

Cause 2 — Vaping at Too High a Wattage

Exceeding the coil's recommended wattage range burns the cotton faster than liquid can replace it.

Fix: Always stay within the wattage range printed on the coil. When in doubt, start lower.

Cause 3 — Sweet or Heavily Flavored E-Liquids

E-liquids high in sweeteners (sucralose) leave a dark caramelized residue on coils that clogs the wicking material quickly. This is called "coil gunk."

Fix: Try e-liquids with less sweetener. Our SmokEjuice line is balanced for flavor and coil longevity. Also try cleaning your coil periodically — rinse under warm water, let it dry completely for 24 hours, then reinstall.

Cause 4 — Chain Vaping

Vaping constantly without breaks doesn't allow the wick to re-saturate between puffs.

Fix: Wait 20–30 seconds between draws. Give the coil time to wick.

Cause 5 — Running the Tank Too Low

When the liquid level drops too low, the exposed wicking ports cause the coil to dry-fire.

Fix: Keep your tank at least 25% full at all times. Refill regularly.
